Chemical Peel Treatments

We offer a wide range of chemical peels ranging from very superficial to deeper peels.

When you attend for a consultation we will be able to advise you on the most suitable peel for you. The peel chosen depends on your presenting problem.

The two main categories of peels which we carry out are:-

AHA Peels

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) occur naturally in fruits and dairy products. Examples of AHAs are glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, malic acid and citric acid. These acids are applied to the skin and change the ways the cells on the skin surface stick together, thereby encouraging them to fall off or exfoliate.

They can be used daily on the skin in concentrations of 2% to 15% or as a peeling agent in concentrations of 20% to 70%.

AHA peels can be used for:-

  • Acne and oily congested skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage and hyperpigmentation

AHA will provide an improvement in the skins texture and pigmentation. Best results are achieved when a course of four peels are completed with two week intervals between peels.

Peels are not recommended in the following situations:-

  • The skin is broken
  • Pregnancy/lactation
  • Recent Roaccutane therapy (less than 6 months)
  • Active herpes infection

After Care:

“Downtime” describes the time after the treatment when the skin is healing and may show signs of dryness, peeling, sensitivity and or redness. Post peel packs are available and recommended for use after the peel. Alternatively plain skin products like aqueous cream or cetaphil are recommended for the first few days.

SPF 30-50 daily sunscreen is mandatory as the skin is extra sensitive to the skins rays after treatment.

TCA Peels

Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) peels are more medium depth peels producing excellent improvement to skin texture, pigmentation, freckles, wrinkles and sun damaged skin. Downtime is approximately 7-14 days and peeling is very noticeable between days 2 and 7. 15 and 18% TCA peels are the most popular concentrations used and a course of four peels is recommended for best results.

Aftercare for TCA Peels.

A specific post peel pack is recommended after use and will help give longer lasting results.A daily factor 50 sunscreen is recommended post peel. It is very important never to pick peeling lesions post-peel as this can result in scarring. Instead keep rubbing in post peel creams as instructed.
